Te Nehenehenui is excited to announce our two key partners in the building of Te Kirikiri housing development. TNN will be working alongside Schick Civil Construction and Sentinel Homes to fulfil our vision for Te Kirikiri – our first major housing initiative for the iwi. Te Kirikiri housing development is a 40-home affordable rental housing project located between Mangarino Street and Esplanade in Te Kūiti.
Schick Civil Construction and Sentinel Homes were selected as the successful tender applicants for the Te Kirikiri development, covering both civil construction and housing design and build following a robust procurement process which included participants from Matakūmea, our Maniapoto pakihi business collective.
The awarding of the contracts was marked with a karakia and ceremony at the Te Kirikiri site prior to contractors officially commencing construction.
Group Chief Executive for Te Nehenehenui, Samuel Mikaere says we are looking forward to working alongside Schick Civil Construction and Sentinel Homes to fulfil the aspirations set out as part of the 5-year Punga phase of Te Kawau Rukuroa. This includes working towards our long-term focus of supporting 200 Maniapoto whānau to access safe, secure, quality homes, of which an affordable rental housing scheme is crucial to supporting whānau into housing in an affordable manner.
He said Sentinel Homes and Schick Civil Constructions indicated their interest in supporting the development of Te Kirikiri while also sharing opportunities for Maniapoto iwi members in employment and social procurement.
The development will generate local employment opportunities and support locally based businesses and suppliers, contributing to the social and economic well-being of the region.
The project is a valuable opportunity to work alongside Maniapoto whānau and businesses through Matakūmea, our Maniapoto business collective, as well as those from outside the rohe who are dedicated to supporting the aspirations of our iwi.
The Te Kirikiri Development will include:
- 20 accessible two-bedroom homes
- 8 three-bedroom homes
- 12 four-bedroom homes.
The range of homes will be designed to meet the diverse needs of whānau, from kaumātua to young families. This project enables immediate housing needs to be addressed while building long-term capacity for housing delivery across the rohe.
