Te Nehenehenui (TNN) is the Post Settlement Governance Entity for Maniapoto. TNN is responsible for the management of assets to meet the needs and aspirations of our people and to provide for future generations.
Tūranga Mahi | Position Overview
The Taiao Manager is responsible for managing and implementing projects that support the operations and delivery of Te Kawau Rukuroa – our 2050 strategy.
The role includes providing leadership, advice, insights, and direction to the Taiao Team, managing three direct reports, which include our Planner Lead and Toa Taiao (Taiao Rangers).
The Taiao Manager is also responsible for managing initiatives that ensure that TNN achieves environmental and iwi-focused objectives alongside our statutory obligations.
The Taiao Manager will also provide Project Management support as needed across other operational areas of TNN.
Ngā Pūkenga | Skill/Role Requirements
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification in either resource/environmental planning, law,/or management
- Current Full Driver’s Licence
- Project Management Expertise – Ability to plan, execute, and deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Strong Communication – Excellent written and verbal skills
- Cultural Competency – Deep understanding of te reo Māori, tikanga, and kawa with an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Collaborative Leadership – Works effectively in multidisciplinary teams; able to influence, listen, and adapt for collective outcomes
- Analytical & Problem-Solving – Comfortable with complexity; able to articulate issues and develop practical solutions
- Integrity & Professionalism – Strong work ethic, reliability, and accountability
- Relationship Building – Establishes and maintains positive stakeholder relationships and represents Te Nehenehenui values confidently
- Technical Proficiency – Computer literacy and ability to manage digital tools
- Resilience & Adaptability – Handles pressure, competing priorities, and change with flexibility
- People-Centric Approach – Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the Resource Management Act
- Facilitated Training Experience is preferred but not essential
- Experience in the interpretation and application of complex documentation and legislation
- High-level Relationship Management Skills and experience
- Experience and knowledge within research and funding environments
- A reasonable level of proficiency in Te Reo Māori is preferred but not essential
